A WORLD OF MULTIPLICITY SCREAMING FOR UNITY

Dounia

This audio/visual exhibition explores Islamic concepts around the Dounia (material world). It approaches unity as a counteraction to division, critiquing  how we quickly fall into the reality of feeling separate from one another.  Contridcally, we identify hate as a process that reinforces every division, even within ourselves, yet to love in the face of hatred is the hardest act. The exhibition becomes a prayer for love, to create a space where the spell of love can dissolve the blood of hate into nothingness. In Islam, the Dounia is categorised as a test, a fight against the intuitive sensations of hatefulness and individuality, thus only unity can destroy the human condition that is bound in division. Love is the acceptance of a multiplicity in opposition to the singular. Love defends, protects and unifies. Every oppressive force isolates the individual, this exhibition intends to do the reverse, a unification of identities, shaped by the Dounia, the material experiences of everyone within it. She is franco-algerian, trans, lesbian, muslim, amazigh and in this exhibition, so are you. Our existence is a consequence of the colonisation of Algeria, a never ending war, and here we are one and in love.

THIS EXHIBITION IS MADE FOR ALL THE BROKEN SOULS.
